New York

The Metropolitan Opera

Beethoven’s only opera—an ode to freedom, justice, and the human spirit—returns to the Met with a fine cast. In performing the role of Don Pizarro, San Diego Magazine raved “American baritone Greer Grimsley is one of the best operatic heavies around these days. He relishes evil characters – so much so that his Don Pizarro is almost lovable. It’s the Bela Lugosi effect. Bloodsucking looks fun and glamorous.” Previous appearances at The Metropolitan Opera include Wotan in The Ring Cycle, Jochanaan in Salome, Telramund in Lohengrin, Amfortas in Parsifal, Scarpia in Tosca, Balstrode in Peter Grimes, and Escamillo in Carmen.
