Greer Grimsley to sing Wotan in LePage's landmark RING at the Metropolitan Opera!

Star bass-baritone Greer Grimsley will perform the role of Wotan in The Metropolitan Opera’s spring 2013 production of Wagner’s complete Ring Cycle, May 4 (Das Rheingold), 6 (Die Walküre), and 8 (Siegfried), 2013

Grimsley’s most recent performances as the most powerful God throughout Wagner's Ring Cycle have been widely lauded as "the arrival of the next great Wotan." The American singing actor has deepened and darkened his portrayal of Wotan over the past eight years with multiple American and international companies such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Oper der Stadt Köln, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Seattle Opera, and on tour to Shanghai. Mr. Grimsley's other Wagnerian credits that have let him to be labelled a leading interpreter include: Telramund in Lohengrin with the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Danish Opera, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Seattle Opera; Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde with the Prague National Theatre, the Royal Danish Opera, the Opera de Bellas Artes in Mexico, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and with Seattle Opera; Amfortas in Parsifal with the Metropolitan Opera; and his other signature role as the terrifying Der Fliegende Holländer with performances at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna under Maestro Gatti’s baton, with the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, France, with Seattle Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Lyra Ottawa, and in Lithuania.

In addition to reprising the role in Seattle Opera’s full Ring for the third time in 2013, the Villians in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, he will also sing Don Pizarro in Fidelio with Seattle Opera, and the High Priest in Samson et Dalila in his hometown of New Orleans Opera. Future season see returns to San Francisco Opera in two productions, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in two productions, a return to Dallas Opera, and a return to San Diego Opera.
